Breaking the rules

The gist of it is basically that one of my friends is going to prom next week, and is planning on wearing a dark navy shirt with his black suit. Now normally I would be strongly against such a pairing, but he eventually convinced me to see the outfit first before I passed judgement.

Here's the weird part; the combination actually looks good,and he wears it very confidently.

Given this, should I keep trying to dissuade him from this outfit, or should I let him be?

Clothing should draw attention to the wearer, specifically his face. High contrast between suit and shirt (and also between shirt and tie) will do the job.

If the "black suit" is actually a tuxedo, then a white shirt and black bow tie in a material that matches the lapel facing on the tux is classic.

Don't act like a douche telling you're friends what to wear. If he was going to an interview in a pink paisley shirt and a green suit you may tell him that he should rethink is atire, but this is prom, nobody will care.

Well, he cares because - maybe if it looks good and people affirm it - he might go for the same style perhaps?? You never know..but so you know there has to be some contrasting colors in there.

It is none of your business what he wears and if he is comfortable in HIS choice why do you believe you have a right to interfere?
