breaking into i-banking after graduation

After previously setting myself up for a career in the entertainment industry, interning at 2 of the top agencies and the top management company, I have had a complete change of heart over the past quarter and am legitimately looking to pursue investment banking. I understand that I completely missed the boat when it comes to recruiting for bulge brackets and am currently scrambling to land an internship at a boutique this summer. Other than networking and learning about the industry, what should my next actions steps be? Should I just try to intern at a boutique, work my tail off, and hope my effort turns into an offer? I just graduated with a degree in economics from UCLA so my field of study does relate to banking, though my professional experience does not.

UCLA is a good school and I wouldn't necessarily look at internships but apply for entry level analyst positions or economists positions.

the internship is key. The entry level i banking jobs were filled ages ago by those who did internships.

you got a late start so you may have to hope for the best with an internship. Extremely difficult to get these jobs.

I don't know if they still can get an internship if you graduated already. Internships are getting more difficultt because there;s not that many I-banks left. I did two internships, one for Kidder and one for Shearson Lehman and when I graduated both were extinct like the dodo bird.

Its ancient firm. Good atmosphere but a bit stuffy.
