Breaking rules: mixing too many patterns, wintry tie with a summer jacket, and of course the SF house rule: don't take pictures in front of graffiti!

When wearing a very loud jacket I tend to go for either dressing the rest down (white shirt, monochrome tie in a matte colour, no ps), or I go full peacock like here. The only thing I avoid in "peacock mode" is introducing too many colours and having patterns that are too similar in size and shape.

Most of these are looking pretty good. I'm disappointed. I'd been hoping for more of these:

Ok, here we go. Almost two years ago I married my wife and did break a golden rule; I was wearing a tuxedo?!
Why? Because I like the look and did feel very comfortable. And thats what dressing is all about.
I look a bit strange without the beard...
The tux is a black mohair sumisura by Gaiola in Napoli. Very italian style with soft shoulder with spalla wrickles, shiny and wide lapels and tapered legs.

(I did break another rule during the wedding party, I was dancing all night long in a pair of velvet slippers, so comfortable...)

Is it breaking the rules to sport semi-formal day wear to the office? I think you will agree, gentlemen that today it is at least - shall we say, eccentric?! Well, being an eccentric old Englishman I do sometimes allow myself such an indulgence and, because it's only semi-formal, feel obliged to bend some of the rules. As here sporting a red patterned tie rather than the expected grey or silver. Last time I did the latter my doctor asked if I was an undertaker[IMG]

Hi all, many great entrances, I'm only playing to make the number. I've been a bit silly breaking at least three rules:
    - Thou shall not wear some loafers with a suit ( from septiemelargeur also !)
    - Thou shall not wear pleated trousers when you have a belly
    - Thou shall shine your shoes

Did you start this project with the shirt or the waistcoat?

I have two pairs of black watch shoes: boat shoes and sneakers. Neither of them seemed appropriate here. I'm on the hunt for a more fitting pair.

By project, do you mean this outfit or the whole black watch thing in general. For the outfit, I started with the shirt. In general, freshman year of high school I bought a dope black watch Tommy Hilfiger hat. It was stolen during gym that winter. Maybe I never got over it and am over compensating. I just think it's the coolest pattern ever.

The outfit. And I suspected you had started with the shirt. :)

It was pretty obvious it was going to come down to those two.

I hope we do a red tie challenge this week.

    - simple challenges increase participants
    - red ties are difficult to wear well, so this would have the potential to be very instructional
    - I just got a really nice red necktie
