Brands w/ High Arm Holes

Three questions:

1. Do high arm holes compliment somebody with a short torso? I was told high arm holes make the torso appear longer.

2. What are some cuts/brands that consistently have higher arm holes?

3. What are some cuts/brands that consistently have normal/lower arm holes?

Thanks!

Ralph Lauren Black Label.

I have a short torso relative to my overall height (6'2" with long legs), but in general the arm holes should be high without being too constricting.

Most of the high end Italian brands (not say Canali or some Zegna) like:
Borrelli
Isaia
Kiton
Sartorio
Attolini
some Brioni
Caruso
Canterelli
Boglioli
ect.

Also, many of the finer British makers have quite high arm holes.

As a rule of thumb, all others do not...

low armholes never look good, no matter what the torso length.

So, if you have a short torso....YES IT WILL LOOK GOOD.

Thanks...this forum is becoming indispensable.

Also, what sort of quality can I expect with RL's suits and Theory suits? Are they better or comparable to Hugo?

I have a Ralph Lauren Purple Label tweed jacket with very high armholes. Most vintage suits had high armholes. Big, low armholes in RTW became the norm in about the 1970's and have been a standard feature of most RTW American made jackets since then. The theory behind the big armholes is that almost anyone can get into them. There are definitely some people who cannot fit in jackets with high armholes. Actually, for high armholes to really work, they have to be made to precisely fit the wearer. Hence, most bespoke suits will have higher armholes, and inexpensive RTW invariably has giant armscyes. The advantages of high armholes are a greater range of movement and better appearance. I don't think the length of the wearer's torso has any bearing on this.

For a real affordable option, look at Thick as Thieves, they have a thread in the streetwear side of the tracks, it is a MTM option with all the right details, very slim suits, but made to your dims, and you can ask for certain changes:
Change the width of the lapels
Change of the slimness of the legs
shoulders
you can omit pockets
You can opt for different style of pockets.

Basically, for a little over $500.00 you get a pretty bad ass handmade MTM suit.

Drawbacks are:

You dont like the fabric
You cant get measured or you are dyslexic
The style of the suits are vastly different from what you like.

This season the runway suits have even higher armholes since it's all part of Raf's marble pillar motif.
