What are the Signitures to each designer.
for example Ralph lauren does what to his clothes.
That way i can compare what a garment is looks like from designer to designer.

Thanks i hope to here lots of cool stuff

Wow... this could be literally a very long book.

My advice: go to www.men.style.com and look through the fashion show/runway pics of the designer collections. It will be the best way to start to tell certain "aesthetics" for designers, for example what marks a YSL as immediately different from Lanvin or Prada.

Pictures are essential and verbal descriptions will only make it more confusing.

Even today I think it is pretty hard to pin someone down to having a signature look.

I feel an easier way to hone it down would be several groups/styles of designers and who falls under that umbrella.

If you took a runway show and didn't put a name to it from Jil Sander or Narciso Rodriquez you may not immediately be able to tell which is which. Same could be said for something like Valentino vs. Dolce & Gabbana or Balenciaga vs. Alexander McQueen.

You're right, SoCal, especially because often designers who used to work for other, more established designers then move off on their own. For example, I have a tough time telling Menichetti from Jil, or Kris V Asche (or however you spell it) from some of the early Dior seasons.

As for some others, DSquared often looks like a crappier Dolce&Gabbana, and for me, Gianfranco FerrÃ

and Valentino seem very close.

As for Narciso Rodriguez, I agree he often looks like Jil. My first thought for him, though, was that he reminds me most of Calvin Klein Collection, but all three of them (without the tags or seen up close) could often be mistaken for the other. Same with Prada, at least when you take away the goofy accessories/add-ons (bakelite airplane brooches and feather caps and stuff).
