suspenders are super comfortable and worth any aesthetic price . looking past the usual silk there are interesting options, i have a couple pairs of casual / workwear type i think a traf leather braid some lvc etc

fwiw i really like overalls for the same reason pure comfort

I also have a pair made from braided leather. For some reason it strikes me as a warm weather thing, so my braided belt/braces are always worn in the spring/summer.

I too am a big guy who wears braces all year long. Braces are about function to me and I wear them without a jacket whenever I see fit.

These outfits look like they were curated by a 15 year old girl who reads vampire fiction

Sounds like a close description to me. I always preferred Dracula, though, and I'm a grown woman.

I have to question the comfort of leather suspenders.

braided , with the usual elastic at the rear . typically an inch wide etc . the braid itself is an elastic structure , you'll see the same style with waxed cotton braid, same diff

carmilla is a pretty good read it's been awhile tho

Suspenders without a jacket seem to do a good job emphasizing a larger upper body/chest. You can actually see this often with women’s costumes using suspenders to emphasize or exaggerate bust. You can also see it with that lumberjack/cocktail-smith photo someone posted earlier where the barrel chest is even more pronounced.

The flip side however is that suspenders without a jacket just look affected in most cases. So I think while they can be flattering in theory it’s just too much of a “thing”.

I would say look at Ethan Newton for inspiration.
He knows how to get the right fit for a larger frame.

A good pair of trousers go a long way. Maybe Fresco or Seersucker? (Loro Piana makes a lovely wool/silk seersucker, and Ambrosi makes a good pair of trousers)

I would skip the braces if you are not wearing a jacket.
