If you guys are ever looking for some unique bow ties, please do check out our shop: www.mai-tie.com. We make bow ties from old Hawaiian shirts so they are vintage and super limited edition because we get just 2 bow ties per shirt. The patterns can range from anything traditional Hawaiian to pretty cool 90's style looks. As bow tie aficionados, we'd appreciate your feedback on the products.

It's an interesting concept, and there's a few patterns that could be fun. You don't mention the size of the bow ties; just visually they seem more narrow than a typical butterfly.

Also, if that stupid spin to win wheel at the bottom right isn't spam I suggest you get rid of it quickly. I would avoid buying simply due to that regardless of my interest.

Latest arrival from @Poszetka :

Looking forward to wearing both shortly... the green one is unlined and incredibly soft, which makes it surprisingly hard to tie. Unlike the diamonds which tend on the large side, these are a bit more normally proportioned.

Still the best value for money (new) I know of, if one likes the slightly messier aesthetic.

Moderator's note: Please do not quote spam.

Hopefully you're not just a marketing bot. So, since you linked to this site, how about some information on the product? The site doesn't explain why they're "custom", much less what materials they are made of. Can you show some real work pics and give further info on this? Since it's your favorite and all...

This thread has been quiet for too long, let me relaunch it with Artur Schnabel:

upload_2019-1-19_10-34-31.png

What is your knot philosophy? Complete wilful mess a la Schnabel? Get as close to the clip-on perfection a la Prince Charles? Somewhere in between? Why? What about the proportions - asymmetrical like Cox or half half?

I've done the Schnabel way and particularly enjoy it with an otherwise very conservative fit (preferably white shirt and navy suit) as the one touch of wilderness.

Most of the bows we see are rather thick, and generally not too wide in either direction (but especially vertically). I rather like a certain aesthetic of a thinner fabric with a bit more tie shown, but it is an unpopular style these days of anemic clip ons.

One proponent of the genre is Col. Aziz Meliani, who is also a fan of the "bold puff" square:

I also prefer the fatter style - I am not a fan of skinny ties.

The wider look is a good one but the wearer must feel comfortable with it.

I wonder if it is more popular in Europe?

Along with a floppier look? As in big ends without interlining...

Tolstoy and family in 1905. The bow tie is as wide as the face...

I have a modest collection of bow ties, all from Sam Hober. I wear them on weekends, trips, sometimes after work an on Fridays as a tongue-in-cheek rebellion against 'casual Fridays', although such a rebellion is superfluous as the lax dress codes at my office mean that we don't actually practice 'casual Fridays'.

Bow Tie Collection (7-21-2019).jpg

I dress idiosyncratically in general (always a hat and jacket, when outside of the office), but bow ties seem to attract that most attention and appreciation, especially when I admit that I tie them myself. I always assume that there's a silent majority of people who are uninterested or just condemn me as a weirdo, but I haven't cared about that since I got the top hat and cane that I asked for as Christmas presents when I was six, so there's hardly reason to start worrying about it now.

I might get a few more over time to fill my color choices out and because a few patterns catch my eye, but I don't think that I really have purpose for much more than I have.

There's always room for more bow ties...

Still from La Motocyclette with Alain Delon:

Admittedly a tad dated, unlike Delon's wardrobe in the movie which has survived surprisingly well (mostly).
