Thank you - I will check those out. I picked up a Pogue select I think it was and an angel's envy and then found pappy van winkle 23 yr old at a bar in brooklyn. They only had an ounce left, so sold it to me for 20 bucks, which was pretty reasonable I thought. It was very good (although it wasn't the first thing I had that evening).

Other options to try that won't break the bank:
    Rowan's Creek
    Black Maple Hill (red label)
    Woodford Reserve Master's Collection
    Four Roses
    Maker's 46
Bulleit (I prefer the rye, but try both)
    High West
    Basil Hayden
    Willet
    Elijah Craig Single Barrel
    Jefferson Reserve
    Woodford Reserve

    Enjoy

Park Avenue liquors on madison and 40th or so has a big selection, if not the greatest prices. Also, don't assume that because you are spending more than the Angel's Envy that you are getting something substantially better.

Your eyes deceive you, it's 5 bottles of Pappy!

To answer your question, we had a Buffalo Trace tasting event up here in Canuckistan and they had Pappy (and the others) available to order for those in attendance. The Pappy was $120 per bottle. I put in for 12 bottles, and originally received 2, but apparently a few people flaked on their orders, so was able to pick up another 3.

Still haven't tasted that Eagle Rare 17. For some reason I feel it's too pricey for me, though I've drank far more expensive things. I guess I have a bourbon stigma floating around in my brain.

So I'll be doing quite a bit of traveling through Kentucky along I-75 in the future. Does anyone have any suggestions of distilleries to check out not too far from the interstate?

There are three major distilleries all within 20-30 mins of 75: Woodford, Four Roses/Bulleit, Wild Turkey.

Really meh IMO. Tastes like a more mature buffalo trace. at that price I'd rather drink buffalo trace. Pappy otoh deserves the price it commands. Some of the finest liquor I've ever had

Can't agree on the Eagle Rare 17 yo being a meh bourbon. I recognize this is all about personal tastes, but my personal tastes actually prefer it to PVW 20 yo, and I passed on picking up my quote of PVW this year to buy some extra ER 17. Different strokes.
