Bourbon.

    ^^^ I don't know if any of you gents ever read Christopher Buckley's book God Is My Broker. Anyway, it involves a monastery (named Cana, not sure how that's relevant, but whatev) in upstate NY, and their big trade was winemaking. Except they had no vinyards, and what equipment they did have was in terrible disrepair. So, the only time they had anything worth a damn to drink/sell was when they imported other wines and re-labeled the bottles. A miracle from Cana Monastery.

    Not sure why that came to mind.

    Nice buys Gnatty. What does that bring your Stagg total to? I bought scotch today, so I can't play in the bourbon thread. Or can I?

    Stagg total at 9, but I plan to give one away for Christmas (long story, but there's a great guy, Vietnam vet, who works at a local coffee shop, and he is a big bourbon fan, so I plan to give him a bottle), so essentially 8, which is my lucky number, so no more Stagg hunting for me. Two more bottles of PVW 20 on the way, and that will be it for this season, rest of the year I will fill in with mainstream whiskies, and I plan to delve more into rye and coincidentally, scotch. My scotch tends to be mainly centered around Islays, but I bought a bottle of Oban last week, and I am enjoying the slightly less intense flavor. Will still be a bourbon drinker primarily, but life's too short to stay pigeon-holed. That's quite a stash of scotch ama, I am envious..

    Thats cool of you to give one to that fellow. I'm sure he'll appreciate it and he'll like chatting about it. I'm giving one Stagg to my brother, one to my dad, and one to a buddy of mine who just had his first boy. He'll need it. As for scotch, definitely a good idea going for Oban, its a nice tweener. Get some good Highland and Island malts to branch out from Islay. Also, get some cask strength whiskys, you'll like the fullness of them coming from big bourbons and smokey scotches. I only have 2 Pappy 20s and 5 2009 Staggs, so your bourbon collections is way ahead of mine. We'll call it even. [​IMG]

    Funny thing: I put some of the Weller 12 into a mason jar with orange peel and a vanilla pod, and the damn stuff is heavily tilting to orange.

    I took the much-reviled Bulleit and gave it the same treatment, plus a clove bud, and the transformation is remarkable. It's actually drinkable. I will likely do up the whole bottle accordingly, just so I can drink it and be rid of it.

    hmmm, that has a certain je ne se quoi to it. I'd be like a recrafter of crappy bourbons.

    Anyone getting this Pappy?

    I wish, but no. I couldn't pull the trigger on something like that unless I was really a baller. I would rather spend $350 on a few select ryes/bourbons/scotches. I would buy it by the glass, if some bar had it.
