Have only experienced that off “vitamin” note with one of the BiBs and never since 🤷‍♂️. Guess I've been lucky, or just not as sensitive to it?

Was thinking about dipping my toe into the Russell's Reserve corner of the bourbon world over the holidays to expand my palate. Have never had anything from the Wild Turkey family before...

What are peoples recommendations on where to start, the 10 year or the single barrel? Both seem to be readily available on the shelf near me at decent price points...

I'd start 10 year on the basis it's cheaper so if it isn't for you, you've spent less finding that out :p

But both are a great option. 10yr will be more consistent over time of course, whereas if you get a single barrel you really like, maybe it's not there and it's a different barrel you like less next time. /shrug

six/half-dozen at the end of the day.

The cat cafe we stopped at has a 12 year czech whisky called GoldCock on offer. Naturally curious, I ordered it. At 5 bucks a pour no big deal.

Oh my. Curiosity at a cat cafe you'd think I would have seen the writing on the wall. Lots of fruit on the nose and the initial palate. But then the finish hits in the form of smoky citrus fossil fuels, highlighting the 12 years of aging conducted presumably in pine tar barrels.

It's a no from me

So wild that bourbon availability is often better overseas than in the Us.
Warehouse 1 has a really good relationship with Michter's. Last year i got my 2023 10yr rye here, and was excited to see the shenks in addition. They still have all three plus bomberger's 2023 on the shelf as well.

Nice! I’ve heard both the ‘24 Shenks and Bombergers are amazing (I haven’t tried previous years)
