@gnatty8 Ha, def Dickel. Tasting gives it away for sure. Plus I had a SA tell me it was Dickel, then I read it somewhere…

I think I paid like $80. A steal for sure. Enjoy ur bottle!

I wonder if there is a slowdown in the high end bourbon world. My local shop has a few bottles of Pappy, which I get because they get allocated stuff and move a lot of product. But I was in my old ‘hood yesterday, which is a Hennessy/Johnny Walker neighborhood, and the local place had bottles of Pappy, Michters, Stagg, Hirch etc. 😱 the stuff was around market prices but I don’t think they have an online presence and no one is spending a months rent on Pappy there.

Which PvW is it, the 15, 20, or 23? Stagg Junior or Stagg? Normally, PvW 20 year old would retail for $200 (i.e. at a state store like VA ABC or PA where they don't do markups), so if you're telling me its selling for that, I'd be all over it if I were you

He said market price so I'm assuming it's going to be with a huge markup.

Market-priced allocated bourbon is actually pretty widely available - at market prices - so if that is what our illustrious friend is saying, that's not so remarkable an observation lol

Yeah it’s not retail, it’s market prices and here in the east coast even at those inflated prices it’s not widely available. Plus you can negotiate these guys down a bit.

It was George T Stagg and I won’t be back there for another 2 months.

Just had GTS for the first time this week - tasted great but holy hell it's strong. Cannot imagine paying $1,500 for a bottle of it though.

Yeah, that was always one of my favorite bottles when I could find it at retail, but I’d never pay more than $200 to $250 for it.

No bourbon is worth $1500 to me. None. For my tastes once you get over $100 on bourbon you're simply paying for name brand, novelty, or scarcity. I think I get as much enjoyment out of a $40 bottle of rare breed as most other bourbons, regardless or price point. Maybe more cause it only cost me $40!

I could not agree more. I might even put the limit at 80 bucks

Meh, I’d pay like $125+ for the best bottles (but obviously not the secondary 4 digit prices)

Fair enough. But generally speaking those are exceptions for me when I know (or assume) something is special.

I will buy a bottle above $100 here and there, usually an allocated bottle that I can get at MSRP pricing via PA state stores, like a Old Fitz 13 I got a couple years back. But objectively, the juice I got for $130 was tasted no better to me than a $50-60 bottle. Now, the beauty of that glass decanter bottle sitting on my shelf on the other hand....well that's why I paid the $70 extra
