Agree and need more myself. It’s $50 out here in SoCal, but still well worth it. The Four Roses Small Batch Select for a bit more is excellent IMHO as well.

I like anything Four Roses. One of the better stores in Knoxville actually does very frequent barrel picks across most of their recipes/mashbills, and I have never been disappointed yet.

Never heard of them before, according to their site: We are the first NapaValley style destination on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®.

Great.

I just finished off their Prisoner wine barrel finished. It was surprisingly tasty. A little pricey but very good.

Recently I moved from a suburban to rural setting. I was concerned about the selection of quality whiskies being severely limited. There is a shop about 12 mins from my house. I have been a faithful patron for about 6 months, during which, I formed a friendship with the manager.

Needless to say, he is a big fan of fine spirits. After me purchasing many of his more unique and quality selections, he invited me to his home.

Total bachelor pad! Nevertheless, I walk in and this cat has about $30k worth of whiskey in 2 different bars. I'm talking stuff I never heard of...Blanton's, Stagg and Stagg Jr rare editions, Hibiki's, Glenlivets and lots of 18, 21 yr old Redbreast and other Irish rarities...

Think of a whiskey "Shangri la". So, he tells me I can just start getting stuff from his personal stash. He gave me that 1st Edition Bardstown Discovery...when I asked him how much I owed he smiled and said "however much they cost man". He wouldn't take any cheese from me at the time and insisted that we would work out something in the future...

Awesome. Although some of the expertses on here have let it be known that Irish whiskey is no good, so how much could this dude really know.

There will be a party in November for my close friend that is more than a couple decades older than me. This is the guy with tens of thousands invested in his Scotch and Bourbon collection that has explicitly left it to me in his will. Still never spoken to his son, ten years younger than me, on how he feels about that.

Anyway, part of his gift from me at this party will be a coffee table book on either Scotch or Bourbon. For this part of his gift not looking to spend more than about $300. Looking for suggestions.

How bout a cheap book and a nice bottle to split? Really though, the tastes and trends change so much that no one invests heavily in a single book. Unless there is some fancy photog book that I don’t know about.

Good writers: Michael Jackson (rip), Jim Murray, Dave Broom, Fred Minnick

I thought about a bottle but discarded that. I mean, we've shared with each other bottles of both spirits and wine worth a lot of money. Also, a bottle eventually is drained. He has an M.A. in English, has written a few books, and is also into photography. For instance, he took and edited these pics at my house:
