I've been been very slowly working my way through a few different bourbons over the past decade, on bottle four now (impressive consumption yes?). My personal preference so far:
1. Buffalo Trace
2a. Maker's Mark
2b. Woodford Reserve
3. Bulleit

Really enjoyed the BT, big gap between it and the rest for me. Bulleit so far is the only one I haven't really enjoyed.

We were at Union Pier, M.I. Beautiful place!

With regard to this “Barrel Bourbon”

Nose: Wafts of fresh red cherries and sugary maraschino’s playing tug of war with one another then give way to charcoal oaky depths. This dram needs a few drops of water to reveal its mysteries. After water, the nose is “Scotchesque” reminding one of heavily sherried Balvinie or Glendronach.

Taste: Spicy oak red, black peppercorns melted into Carmel corn syrupy molasses. Bitter cocoa and red wine vinaigrette produce a pleasantly astringent aura on taste buds.

Finish: Medium oily, slightly dry, roasted oak tannins fade into pickled vegetable giardiniera.

Reflections: At 14 yrs old, single barrel cask strength this dram is full of wonder. One of my fav bourbon this far. 9 of 10!

My only complaint is this rather garish sticker on back:

Didn’t know Phil Anselmo was advertising Bourbon nowadays...but whatever.

Just seems a little out of place for a $100 dram...

Had a dream that I found both Blantons and Stagg Jr at MSRP. Knew it couldn’t be real and woke up.

Lineup for my brother inlaws bachelor party/wedding next weekend. He had planned to have us all visit Buffalo Trace for the bachelor party to choose a barrel for the wedding, but unwed child and covid put a damper on that. Just about 10 of us in the pre-party festivities and only about 50 at the wedding (both big immediate families and no outside friends/guests). Trying to make him feel a little better.

That's a COVID hot spot dying to happen there, broseph. Be careful.

True. You’re being a great bro-in-law, but establish some ground rules and have a great time. Congratulations to the fam...

Its ok. Its only immediate families and those who traveled in immediate family have quarantined. The party is very secluded as well.
