I forgot to buy navy socks. :-/

Other than that, how did I do? It's a Z Zegna suit, bought OTR.

Yeah, depends on the price you paid, but it looks like you did fine.

See, I don't even know what a high gorge is.

Shirt is a classic Brooks Brothers (17.5/35) oxford.
Suit is Z Zegna (46R) - it was originally $1000 or so at Macy's, it got knocked down to $475 or so, and after gift cards from X-Mas it ended up at $400.
Tie is a Brooks Brothers tie as well.
Belt is random Joseph Abboud belt that I wear with jeans.

Shoes (not pictured) are random Bostonian dress shoes that I could afford when I bought them.

Do you guys think I need to go back and buy navy dress socks (I only have a pair of black ones) before the job fair Thursday?

I'd say more like an inch, but it's hard to tell. I've decided why I don't like too-long sleeves - it's because you should be able to see that a person has wrists, that his arms don't just go straight down and turn into fingers.

And yeah, get a tie with some body and texture (or a print) since the suit is so plain.

And get the trousers hemmed ASAP.

But on the whole, it's a good start!

+1 They are more likely to note the sloppy tie than any details on the suit itself. The tieknot looks problematic, but a bit hard to diagnose from the shot. What knot did you use?

Work on that knot.

BTW, IME, heavier woven ties are much easier to get a good knot with than thinner satin and print ties.

And for something like a job fair or interview, wouldn't a plainer tie be better?

Think conservative, not plain. An attractive stripe pattern or something like a small diamond pattern.

Look at the two suit/ tie combos iammatt is wearing on this page of the What Are You Wearing Now thread:

This guy is like the pinnnacle of stylish, yet professional dress. Observe and learn, Young Grasshopper! And good luck at your job fair!

(and don't forget, 90% of the other men your age will have no idea how to dress-even if you are not quite ready to emulate some of the better dressers here, you are still ahead of the pack)

Wow I like the suit and thats a great price for Zegna. Good job shopping! There are a few things that did imediately catch my attention though...

1. Jacket sleeves are too long, I really hope that you take it in about 2.5-4.0cm, just so I can see that great shirt cuff underneath. That will provide some much needed contrast. However, Im sure you haven't seen a tailor to alter anything yet, so do it soon.

2. Im a man who loves a good dimple in my tie, maybe giving your tie a clean dimple and not having ripples can do that tie justice. I like that you are staying conservative yet, I would recommend having a tie with subtle patterns just to stand out a bit.

Other than those two things, I really think you did a wonderful job finding your first suit.
