Bought Brooks Bros. Navy Plaid Sport Coat: what color/style of pants can I wear instead of gray?

I just bought this BB Fitzgerald navy plaid jacket on sale and am not sure what I want to wear it with--I was trying to think of something besides light or medium gray. I don't want the look to be boring. The jacket has a slight sheen and has a slim fit. The plaid is a shade of gray with some green. I know the sport coat/jean look is regulary trashed here but could I get away with a slightly faded blue jean, in a casual setting, or am I stuck with light or medium grey dress pants due to the sheen and structure?

Complicating this is that I could order the matching plaid trousers but have never been able to pull the trigger on a plaid suit.

Pretty weird, dude. But it will probably pair well enough with the basics - tan chinos, grey wool trousers. "I don't want the look to be boring?" So wear a pink shirt or a yellow shirt. Trying too hard to come up with a clever look based on a weird jacket and some special pants will look gimmicky.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

 • Plain hem

 • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

 • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

 • No preference, as long as the proportions work
