I am having a discussion with an Ebay seller who claims that the following tie is a 7-Fold tie.

I don't think it is. Can you confirm this?

Could it be what Chuck would call a "double four-fold"? It seems to have 4 folds and to be lined with the same material.

No. Its a regularly constructed tie. All regular constructed ties are made with a tiny fold over the edge so as not to be visible when the tie might be turned over. The inside (hidden fold) is simply sewn together.

    Regular tie.

Quite, sorry to be unclear. It is not a 7 fold tie.

    Standard four fold, self-tipped.
Stick your finger up the tie and you should be able to feel where the tipping ends, and the lining begins.

It's not a sevenfold, but still looks like a great tie. I'm currently wearing a Borrelli from Lance that's also like that in the sense that it's self-tipped and the inside silk has the pattern from the outside, but not a sevenfold.

It is a common misconception on ebay that a self-tipped tie is necessarily a seven-fold. I suspect some sellers are making an honest mistake. I'm sure others are not.

    Nice looking tie, though.

But not a "double-four fold," which is more like a 7-fold than a "regular" tie. (cf. Carlo Franco's 7-folds, which are actually double-fours, IIRC)

That is a normally constructed, albeit self-tipped, neck tie.

A 7-fold (double-4) looks like this on the inside:

it looks pretty cute tie. I would keep it, but do tell the seller that it's not 7 fold tie and he should give you 40%+ off on next tie you buy from him or something..
