I picked up two Borrelli shirts today (beautiful *****), but after trying them on, I noticed that the necks run about a half size bigger than I would like, more so on one than the other. I searched the archived threads and saw a few comments regarding this same issue with others. My question is, will the shirts a) shrink a bit if I put them in the dryer, or b) can they be brought in slightly by a good tailor? Here are two pictures of the bigger one (excuse the lack of shaving and poor picture quality...). Thanks for any input!

Sorry for the huge pictures...perhaps a mod can cut them down to size for me?

Pics are waaaaaaaaaaay big.

The shirt looks indeed to loose in the neck. Cotton shirts will shrink by about 1/4"-1/2" through laundering, a bit more if you tumble dry on hot.

If you find it's still too loose after 3-4 launderings, the easiest thing to do is to move the button 1/4" to make it tighter. Unless the shirt has zero tie space, this is usually not a problem.

I'd return the second one. I don't think a Borrelli will shrink all that much and definitely not enough for that one. That second one is way too big.

buttoned you should be able to fit no more than two fingers in

Thanks for the replies. Are there any tailoring procedures that can be done? I can't exchange it for a smaller size, as I'm already at 14.5, and there were only a few in that size anywas. I got it for a great deal, so I don't mind putting a little money into having it fixed, if possible. If not, I'll see if I can pass along the deal to any members with a size 15 neck...

A shirtmaker can cut you a new collar but it won't be cheap and fabric matching could be problematic.
