Borrelli in DC

Just passed through the DC Filene's on Wisconsin, and saw a bin with several Borrelli shirts, all $99. FYI.

Were those dress shirts, or casual one? {Never mind, I don't want to know as I already have too many shirts.]

I spoke to Kofi at the CT Ave Filene's earlier today to ask if he knew further about when Barney's, etc. would be arriving. He didn't know, but mentioned there'd be a suit sale starting in a few days (pre-sale going on now). He said the Borrelli and other Mitchell's/Richard's suits were NOT to be part of the suit sale. Oxxford will be part of the sale though.

They looked like mostly dress shirts. Maybe one casual (in a dark chambray; kind of ugly). At least one was 100% linen. Nice patterns. Too bad for me; they had plenty of 16s, but the sleeves would all be too short.

I saw an ad in the Mazza Gallerie FB stating that the suit sale would be between March 7 and March 14.

This past weekend I had business taking me to Chicago. I was walking along State St. when I passed a Filenes, which I had read about here. Curiosity got the better of me and I went in. I saw some Borrelli items - one size 42 jacket, one size 42 suit and one size 38 suit. The sportcoat was $1200, the suits $1700. There were many Borrelli shirts. One of these shirts seemed to have a heavily soiled inner collar band(from wear?). Many of them were monogrammed "DR," but in a variety of sizes(why?). Some of the Borrelli shirts had machinesewn buttonholes. The only previous instance of machinesewn Borrelli buttonholes I had seen was on the sample collars in their Milan and New York boutiques. There were many pairs of men's Borrelli pants and shorts along with Borrelli knitwear, much of it for women.
I saw a few Oxxford suits, priced at around $900, and some Hickey-Freeman suits. Both Hickey-Freeman and Oxxford have sloppy-looking handsewn buttonholes sewn with thick waxed thread. Is this largely an American RTW/MTM phenomenon? Italian buttonholes look infinitely cleaner.

I was at the Mazza Gallerie FB yesterday.  They only have one $99 Borrelli left, the rest (about 10-12) are $149.  I also noticed a number of shirts with the "DR" monogram.  I assume it was some kind of production error.  I guess it's possible someone ordered a huge batch of "DR" shirts and then never picked them up, but that's unlikely since they're in different sizes.  There were also at least one or two other shirts with monograms, so look carefully before buying...

From what I saw, the Mitchells/Richards suits are part of the suit sale.
