...check out this new purchase. An absolutely stunning wool/cashmere blend suit that I just bought from theworldsfinest on ebay. This is as nice or nicer than the more expensive Brioni I purchased recently. The drape on this suit is beautiful, the fine flannel soooo soft. Wow.

Sublime.

However, to me, I believe that Kiton makes a better suit, again my humble opinion.

yes, looking forward to photos-- and to your thoughts on the narrow pant legs of the suit at the ankles.

I like Borrelli but the pant legs on many of their suits are just too narrow. I have 2 suits with legs that are wide for Borrelli (8.75" at the cuff) which I like. The shoulders on the suits are particularly nice. I'd place the Borrelli's below my Attolinis and RLPLs, but they are still great quality and good value on Ian's site.

Another of Ian's Borrelli suits at shopthefinest has a very odd feature. It is double breated dark navy with a bold windowpane (size 52/42). For some reason there is a buttonhole on the lapel at a spot where there shouldn't be one!

...I don't like them either, and I just took the pants to my tailor, who has worked miracles on some of my other suits when Saks and NM tailors said "that can't be done." On this suit she said she could widen the legs just enough, with the little bit of fabric there is left at each seam. I just can't get over the beauty of this fabric, with the 80/20 wool/cashmere blend. One of, if not the, most beautiful fine flannels I've seen.

Borrelli and Kiton have vastly different cuts (at least to people like us) yet they are within the same Americanized Neapolitan family.

I agree they have vastly different cuts. I think Borrelli is very similar to the Attolini cut while Kiton is much more boxy. Kiton uses much better fabric which gives it quite an edge over Borrelli.

I wouldn't consider either brand part of an Americanized Neapolitan family although they may make make a specific cut for the American market. Borrelli, Kiton, Attolini, Isaia (and many others not famous in the U.S. yet) provide ready to wear, but are still very Neapolitan. Even the mother of the Neapolitan family, Rubinacci, has a RTW line...it's just not famous in the U.S. and does not sell as good as the other more famous brands.

Where to get Rubinacci RTW?! Wow. News to me.

Man, I gotta take a trip to Milano or Napoli.

I don't think Kiton is Americanized at all...they have maintained a Neopolitan cuts for ages.

Sorry, it is without a doubt, it still a neapolitan cut/themed jacket, but this has been discussed many times on the board. Their garments are RTW, MTM with padding and they have altered cuts to fit an American / World market, with several designs; with one make that seems to garner real Kiton fans with minimal padding. Isaia has quite a array of cuts many designed for the states and they openly admit that they design cuts for the US to appeal.

And men, in general, in Naples, from my understanding, don't wear Kiton or at minimum see it as just a large corporate entity and not a true neapolitan suit.

That being said, I like the padding for the US market. I wear Borrelli and Attolini suits and would say they both are Americanized Neapolitan suits. I do think a few makers stay a little more true to what you can expect from their Neapolitan cut whereas other makers are going after the dollar by making several cuts that will appeal more to the Us market, Isaia being the king.

Kiton plays this same game.

Example: Isaia:

Naples is shaking again, but this time the trembling has nothing to do with Mount Vesuvius. The tremors began last year, when Gianluca Isaia decided to rethink the classic Neapolitan suit, a garment that has remained virtually unchanged since the 1930s. The silhouette, with its high armhole and exaggerated trim fit, is a look that only the very lean can pull off. Few Americans, however, are built that way, which explains why Neapolitan-style clothing has been slow to catch on in the United States. Consequently, Isaia, a third-generation suitmaker, chose to tweak the suit’s dimensions and increase the comfort level to accommodate a growing—both figuratively and literally—U.S. audience.

---I think they are all up to some tweaking for the US market excpet maybe Attolini, but Attolini wouldn't suprise me either.
