Both in Black. Would the quality of the former justify the addition 100+ dollars I would pay. Any drawbacks to the latter? Currently, all the shoes I own are 10.5, medium width. Yet, a shoe salesman's measured my foot and said I was a 10 with a high in-step. Thus, he brought out a more generously wide Allen Edmonds Oxford for me to try on - 10 EEE (?) he said the widest they have. How does this factor in? I'm sure a 10.5 for either shoe would be fine on me, given my history of comfort wearing 10.5s. Feel free to bring to light any shoe of comparable quality, perhaps better valued and/or additionally stylish.

Thanks!

I find that the Chelsea 5's last (335, I think) runs particularly wide. I also have a high in-step and wide foot (10.5-11 EEE in AE) and the Chelsea 5 fits me great. A 9.5 E UK would probably fit you.
I don't own the Sargent so can't comment on fit, but I like the looks of C&J much better. You should be able to find it for under $350 US right now with the weak pound.

Here is a clue for you: The last no. of that AS is 87 and the width is F. Most of the Peal shoes of BB made by AS come in 87 last with D width, which is equal to U.K. F width.

So if there is a BB store nearby, just go and try some Peal shoes described above to determine which size fits you best.

Another thing is, the AS boots are from AS Classic line. I saw quite a few posts in some threads opened in SF stating that only the shoes from AS's Premiere and Premiere Exclusive lines are decent. I have never owned AS shoes from other AS ranges/lines, so I cannot confirm this statement.

All of my AS shoes are from BB. Most of them are in 87 last. And 87 last is not a tight last.

I don't know that C&J model and that particular last so I cannot comment on the Chelsea 5. I own a pair of Polo RL chelsea boots made by C&J called Redding, which is an exceptional boot.

Thank you all for the responses---

I too prefer the buckle look, but thank you mg428 for bringing it my attention that the lasts on the AS Classic Line are not particularly durable. I wonder where else I can find a similiar-looking ankle boot of like price (150-300 dollars) but on another plane of quality?
