Boots for winter

guys

not sure if this would be the right forum. I'm actually looking to buy boots (doesn't have to be stylish) but should serve me well to walk in the snow and be waterproof. I'm not into major hiking but do like taking long walks in the snow here in the northeast

Any ideas that would serve me well? A zappos search gives so many results that it's getting me dizzy!

Thx

No idea. Generally suede in not great for snow/slush.
As you can see, I live in a snow-free area. When I go to the
Mountains- Yosemite, Tahoe, I take along cheap boots
which are rubber and nylon made by LaCrosse. Mine are over
10 years old. I can't find the model online. They are not great for
walking but are fine getting in and out of of cars and wearing
"apres ski". When I lived in Chicago, I wore Herman's Survivors work boots
and changed into my Style Forum level dress shoes at work. Or wore
galoshes.

Yeah, suede is a bad idea. I'm in the northeast too and wear my basic Chippewa 6" boots right through the winter (sometimes with a pair of heavy wool socks). I've been thinking of getting a pair of their more rugged 8" boots (with the lugged Vibram sole) to use as outdoor/winter/trail boots as they'll have more traction (and allow me to save my more polished 6" ones). They're not waterproof out of the box, but a few coats of Obenauf's HD LP is all it takes. Amazon's running a sale right now that should get you 25% off (code: BFSHOE25).

Red Wings might be a good option then.
