Boots for a lady friend

Cross-listed from MC:

I have a lady friend who is looking for a pair of simple, well-made boots. Not high-heeled, riding boot height or slightly lower, good quality leather, preferably zipperless, rounded-to-pointed toe, and free of adornment (except maybe a strap at the upper calf or something).

Where can these be found? I feel like I see women wearing them all the time, but when one goes to the stores (Barney's, Neiman's, Bergdorf's,...) everything looks like something Kim Kardashian would wear.

Golden Goose seems to make the boots which fit this description best, but they're $1000 and have glued rubber soles. I can't believe that all the women I see are paying $1K for their boots, and I know the $1K is not worth it. My lady friend has two pairs of incredible suede boots from N.D.C. which are goodyear welted which were each <$500, so I know quality can be had if we look in the right places...

Any good places in SoHo?

The last time I bought clothing for a girl, I almost lost my life.

Good luck.

i have a pair of via spiga boots that sound like what you're looking for. they're from a few years ago, but via spiga shoes are generally pretty nice and have similar designs for multiple seasons.
