Question for the boot pros: how, if at all, does your sizing differ between boots and shoes? Do you take the same size or size up/down?

My feet are different sizes, so it's always a compromise between having a tight fit on the larger foot and a looser fit on the smaller foot. I'm just wondering how this would go with boots. For example, heel slippage might not be such a big issue, since the boot shaft provides more support (?).

I'm thinking to order dress boots online (Carmina), but I've only been able to try on the same manufacturer's derby shoe in that size & last.

I take the same size generally in boots, but laced boots can be more forgiving on a slightly looser fit. It works out to let me wear lasts wih higher insteps that probably wouldn't work for me as shoes due to wide/lower instep foot

I take the same UK size in boots as I do in shoes. And the same size in US shoes as US boots. The only caveat being, 1/2 size down for loafers.

I'm a 9D in pretty much everything. Lace shoes will have little lace gap at that size, but boots will be about perfect. Of course, I have to accommodate a prescription orthotic in most shoes/boots so that may skew things a bit. I have a number of shoes/boots that will not allow the inclusion of the orthotic, so when I wear them my feet hurt at the end of the day. But because I love the shoes/boots I am willing to suffer. I guess what I am saying is TTS in boots and shoes.

Thanks for the answers to my sizing question above. Sounds like taking the same size as in shoes is the way to go. A no-brainer, really.

I see you like Chelsea boots. Good choice!
It takes like forever to take the shoes off sometimes. Chelseas are the best.
Is there any way you guys like to lace your boots for convenience to speed up the process?

You can look for models that use speed hooks on the shaft. I've got several Alden and AE boots; makes it very easy.
