Enzo Bonafe is something I really wanna try next. Is it fair to say it's a step up from C&J or would it be the same?
Apart from being Handwelted, they are not a step up from C&J. Which is fair, because even MTO they are about the same price as RTW C&J.

They are also way more flexible than C&J MTO is. There is a big selection of lasts, styles, construction methods and leathers. Small pattern changes don't cost any money and so on, I've had them do everything from no stiffeners, no lining, gusset tongues, extra arch support, extra width, reduced instep, adding or modifying a captoe/apron/heel counter. They even ordered a specific outsole i was only inquiring about once, doubt you'll get that service from C&J.

I'd say they are about the same all things considered, C&J has been more consistent in terms of finishing in my experience though.

Enzo is easily and definitely a step up. GYW Ready To Wear (RTW) vs hand welt, hand welt hands down. In terms of finishing, RTW produces clones, so obviously the finishing will be more consistent. Don’t get me wrong, I love C&J to the tune of something like 28 pairs in my shoe room. Shoes made by hand will necessarily result in each one being different. That craftsmanship from a good maker like Enzo is what I’m after. For a bit more on the topic, read this thread below.
