I haven't bought any AEs in a while. Mostly adding boots to my collection, especially shell pairs from Alden as their Trubalance and Barrie lasts work for my wide feet.

I generally wear 8.5ee or 8.5eee for most AE lasts. The 65 last I find challenging.

I found a pair of Fifth Street boots in 8.5eee for $65 USD, on ebay. Soles show clear signs of wear and there's a small tear in the uppers that I'm sure I can sand out. I've always wanted a pair of AE dress boots so I decided to buy them. The 65 last is weird for me and this pair confirmed it. Even with thin socks, these are snug. The leather was pretty dry and I've conditioned them several rounds already. I might not keep them.

So I was perusing on ebay, again. And saw this pair of shell Park Avenue boots in 8.5E. The seller was letting them go as they were too tight as he's usually 8.5eee. But the first owner who wears 8.5ee found this pair too big. Hmmm.

Boots have very little wear.

For $200, I decided I could risk it. And if they don't fit, an easy flip. Interestingly enough, these fit bigger than the 8.5eee Fifth Street pair. These shell feel like 9ee/9E to me. Even with thicker winter socks, they work.

I don't know if I'll keep them. They were custom made with Dainite soles. I hate Dainite. They are slippery on wet smooth surfaces and provide little grip on snow and ice. But for $200, I'm sure I can keep them as dress boots.

I always wanted shell boots from AE. So I guess I'll keep them for a bit and see how I feel.

If original 120cm laces that came with boots are not long enough, then what's the options? Any online retailer for laces you can recommend within the UK ?

I know these aren't from UK, but try looking for paracord laces. They last forever and offer many cool colours. I swapped out most boot laces for paracord.

Boot season is official as the snow arrives.

My first pair of Chippewa, and still one of my favourites for the fit, comfort, look, and price point. These are one of the last American made pairs.

Dan Frappier rebuilt with a new cork filler, leather midsoles, and a stacked heel block and sole look. And now with these lug soles, I can use them in any environment.

Mad Dog Laces are a great colour contrast.

Thanks @suitforcourt . Paracord laces seem to be available via Amazon UK. Will give them a try. Also found a website called www.theshoelace.co.uk that seem to stock long length laces
