Does a 'Barker Appreciation Thread' exist on SF ?
I have Grassmere in ‘tan softee’- similar in feel to olivvia shrunken grain. I too have concerns regarding their robustness. Mine are 6 width and on an itshide commando. I’ve had them for 2 years and worn twice, so not a great buy.some oberservations:
in tricker's last 4497s I have to size up half a size compared to c&j last 325 for length.
the grassmeres are in width 5 a good part wider than c&j conistons in E.
the olivvia shrunken grain is very soft, perhaps softer than one would expect for boots "that can cope with more rugged conditions".
ordered at the factory store for 392,- euro I was forced by the german customs to pay another 125,- euro import fees and duties.
this will be a singular adventure, not nice to by british post brexit.
they were thought as replacement for my army boots „kampfschuh modell 83“, which have been now in constant use since 1988, the year I have recept them as soldier.I have Grassmere in ‘tan softee’- similar in feel to olivvia shrunken grain. Great leather. Great Boot. Great Choice
That's 32% import duty they charged. Mental.some oberservations:

So what exactly is your concern regarding their robustness? The fact its supple/soft doesn't mean its any less robust, does it.I have Grassmere in ‘tan softee’- similar in feel to olivvia shrunken grain. I too have concerns regarding their robustness. I think it just feels very lightweight and thin, so I imagine it would be more susceptible to cuts/splits, which for a rugged country style boot isn’t ideal. So what exactly is your concern regarding their robustness? The fact its supple/soft doesn't mean its any less robust, does it.
