Hi all,

@Genericuser1 's Santos black scotchgrain brogues (1st pic below) got me thinking about other black, grain boots that might dress well both up and down. There aren't many out there, and the one's I've seen have a grain upper and smooth calf toe, e.g. J.Fitzpatrick's Columbia (pic 2), Crockett & Jones' Coniston (pic 3) or J. Fitzpatrick's & Bremerton(pic 4).

The Santos seems discontinued. Are there other, similar boots out there? Or should I turn to MTO?

Currently on clearance at AFPOS I'd grab them now: https://www.afinepairofshoes.co.uk/collections/sale-price-desc/products/carlos-santos-brogue-boot-in-black-grain

Ooh, I didn't think they were in my size (UK9) but they do have 1 left at a UK8.5. How do they wear? If at all large I'm tempted to try them and see if my local cobbler can make them fit. The price is ridiculous.
If you are standard width (D in the US) the 8.5 would probably be ok. You can make up or reduce the difference with socks IMO.
Also According to Kostas
Last 333: A classic round last found on the Wingtip Boot. Comfortable and little wider, you should Size Down Half from your regular TTS
I'm going to pick up two boots a half size larger and if need be just wear a thicker sock although with my wide feet I probably won't need to.

Its amazing how different the feel of the boot is across the top of the foot by straight lacing. I like it. View attachment 1739819
I do prefer the parallel lacing with my boots. Just a couple of days ago, I changed all of them to the following scheme, where you don't see any crossings on the back, and it seems to provide a better adjustment control. For short laces, it's ideal.
