i know that a boot cut is when the bottom is a bit wider than the knee.
what if the bottom is the size of a boot cut but the knee is the same size as the bottom. what could it be called?

maybe it's because my neck is really messed up right now and the pain is killing my imagination, but i'm having a hard time picturing what you are describing. so there is no taper to the leg from knee to bottom, it's all wide throughout, but it widens from top of the thigh to the knee? that sounds really messed up, which is why i'm prone to think i'm wrong.

i think you may be talking about relaxed jeans like gdl said?

for instance if it was a close fit in the thigh. then an 8inch knee and an 8 inch bottom.

That's an original style bootcut (some people call it a bootleg) you're describing. The 517 Levi's boot cut is like this, I'm pretty sure. I'd have to measure mine, but I'm pretty sure they are just straight from the knee down.

Only later bastardized bootcuts (i.e. flares) get wider from the knee down. (I.e. all the True Religions etc.)
