I'm missing all three of these. The "Blue Book" appears to be about Edwardian costume design, but the others look interesting.

I would agree but I would also state that one should get an older edition. I just reviewed the newest edition, the 17th, and while I wasn't disappointed I was a bit saddened that Peggy Post is comfortable with people using e-mail in some circumstances I think that notes and letters should still apply.

That said, the new edition isn't a travesty but I am old-fashioned.

I read the several blue book editions from the 1880s through the 1910s at a university lib. one afternoon.  Interesting education as to the British proportion-form of measuring and cutting, how it's rather standardized, and not as individualized as we think.

For Victorian manners there's a book along the lines of "Deportment and Manners of the Most Refined Society," or some pretentious title -- not a pretentious book.  Reprinted from the 1880s.  John Young.  A lot of it's quaint, but you get an idea as to how many of the better-mannered people from the 20th century came to their behavior (harking to the Victorian).  

And ... regarding the Cary Grant style books, for the true lowdown from the man himself, check at your local microfilm library for the Sunday insert section (This Week magazine) from 3/30/62.  Who knows if he really wrote it, but it's a good, if elementary, article covering of the very basics of dressing.  I can transcribe it and post it in a new topic if there are any requests-t-s-s-t-s, as Cary would say.

One that comes to mind is: Bridges, John & Curtis, Bryan- A gentleman gets dressed up. It's very interesting, but doesn't dwell in areas covered so well by flusser, roetsel, molloy, etc.

At the request of Manton and several others, I have ordered this book and several others through Amazon.com. Will let you know my thoughts on those when those books arrive.

My favorite book is Clothes and the Man by Alan Flusser. It really captures the spirit of dressing well, imho. Elegance by G. Bruce Boyer is second, as it also is well written and extremely informative without being lecturing or condescending. My third favorite one is The complete films of Cary Grant. Pictures do say a thousand words. Absolutely beautiful clothes from a bygone era.
