I'm looking for a book on the importance of poetry in non-poetry majors' lives. It could have to do w/society, history, politics, whatever. Anybody got any ideas?

It's not really a book, and it's not so much about the importance of poetry in everyday life as it is about making poetry important in everyday life. Billy Collins' Poetry 180. Billy Collins is cool in general for that, cuz people who can't be bothered "interpreting" and criticizing poetry still like his stuff for being clear, honest, and funny, rather than tricky and obtuse.

I would bypass the book on poetry and get a book of poetry by Rumi. His work makes the importance of poetry self-evident.
