bold suit linings...a conservative business dress nonstarter? adetriment? or of no import?

does a purple (or similarly bold) lining eliminate a suit from conservative business dress contention?

picked up what is, for me, a grail suit...mid navy with midnight blue windowpane...ostensibly conservative business dress, but has a purple lining.

i am trying to adhere to one-in/one-out closet management...as such would like to jettison one or two older conservative business dress suits...not sure if this is advisable. for me i could give two ***** about a purple linign...i own a purple sportcoat...but i'm not sure how I feel about taking off my suit jacket in a boardroom to reveal bright purple...not excited about keeping my jacket on when everyone else has taken theirs off either.

bottom line...i now have four conservative business dress suits (counting the new one)...i need at least two...id like to sell two but can only do that if the new one is conservative business dress approved...

I wouldn't stress over it. I think you'll be just fine, purple lining or not.

You don't need to remove your coat because others do it - especially not if they are your seniors.

If you do, nobody would give a rats a** about the lining of your coat, though.:satisfied:

you could always have the lining replaced if you wanted.

Strict conservative business dress? No. A nice touch? Often.

I would say yes, if it's faint and the shirt and tie are somber. Flannel suits with a muted windowpane are fairly innocuous.

That said, I am curious to see what a mid blue suit with a midnight windowpane looks like...

Yes. It's one of the only areas that one can get away with a touch of colour and individuality in conservative business dress without frightening the horses, so go for it.
