A store called Boden is moving into the neighborhood. Anyone know anything about it? It looks like an English J. Crew / Banana Republic.

It's something like that, but possibly a little more upmarket. It was started by a chap called Johnnie Boden, ex-city / financial type. It sells the sort of clothing upper-middle class English people like to dress in - basically a sort of blend of traditional (cords, tweed) with something a little more modern (loud shirtings, fleeces). It's all rather expensive / poor value at their usual retail prices, and I even went along to one of their bi-annual clearance sales last month and came away empty handed - the majority of their production is based in Eastern Europe, and I didn't see the point in paying (even deeply discounted) £25 for one of their shirts when I can get better (Lewin) for the money, or spend more and get H&K / similar on sale.

I suppose for business model you're best thinking along the lines of Thomas Pink - image over substance, and inflated prices.

I live in the UK and the catalogues come to my house and they always remind me loads of the Charles Tyrwhitt ones. I wouldn't bother, once I ordered a shirt from them and it was horrible so I sent it back. T

The only retail outlet they have in this country is a 'factory shop'. I'd be surprised if they planned anythink different in the US (or Pluto).

Could it be a different Boden?

My friend applied for a job there and she had never heard of it either. The person she spoke to was English and they talked about bodenusa.com as a reference for the clothing.

Apparently, they are opening a warehouse, call center, and I guess eventually some stores. Maybe they will be 'factory shops' (we call them outlets) as that seems to be all the rage these days. There are high end 'factory shops' popping up everywhere around here (Pennsylvania).
