Should I go for traditional boat shoes?

or try something new?

I already have a pair of Sperry boat shoes (brown with white sole) and they look very worn out and beat up. However, I don't know which of the two would look better with the way that I dress. I'm mostly a shirt and jeans type of guy. However, I do wear shorts sometimes (yes, still shirts).

Also, I've heard that Sebago is good quality; better than Sperry. Is this true?

Which of the two would you pick?

The differences between the two make the 'new' style look juvenile.

Boat shoes aren't of much use to well-dressed adults, it's true.

If you wear a lot of shorts and t shirts I guess they're ok and useful...

I don't entirely agree with others here - the reality is, a grown man can wear boat shoes and even, GASP, flip flops in the right circumstances. And, absolutely, you can wear boat shoes with jeans - just never with socks. As for boat shoes, I do prefer sebago over sperry. Sebago is a nice ready-made brand before you move up to handmade boat/mocs from companies like Quoddy or Rancourt or others.

Now, having said all that - boat shoes, like flip-flops, are a very casual look. Think untucked shirts and as mentioned, no socks. So, they certainly are NOT my choice for everyday wear with jeans. So, the truth is in the middle - yes a man can wear boat shoes, even with jeans, but in my opinion, only with an ultra-casual look -the type of attire you might wear to a beach bonfire.

So, if you're looking for an everyday shoe to wear with jeans, then I DO agree that boat shoes aren't the best answer.

Quick follow-up: I see the OP is in the Phillipines. That might change things quite a bit. Acceptable modes of dress may be different there. My wife and I frequently travel to the Carribean an d on the islands there, style of dress is very different than continental U.S. Having not been to the Phillipines, I can't comment on accepted modes of dress there - perhaps boat shoes ARE better there.

I would suggest - if you can get some made in Chromexcel, that's a very good quality leather that has some natural water resistance. But you should still treat to help it repel water and salt.

I mean depending on color of shoes they can and can't work well with jeans and would do better with like chinos for example.

But honestly even like a driving moc looks better than a boat shoe with jeans.
