Boat shoes seem to be popular amongst the SFers. I'm still deciding whether I should get a pair. Do you think boat shoes are appropriate for a 30-year-old, or are they something you might wear further on down the track? And what colour is most appropriate for a "young" folk?

I don't feel appropriate wearing boat shoes and I'm 21.

As long as you're out of HS it's a greenlight.

i dig em immensely, 23 here.

i also live in the south though where preppy is a little more prevalent.

i don't like those LL Bean bloucher things that look kind of like boat shoes. those look a little old man.

I'm actually surprised by the OPs statement. Boat shoes are sort of standards for men in their 30's. It's on younger dudes that they seem somewhat of an of-the-moment thing.

It has been southern frat dude uniform forever. Plus, people with boats since you can drive them all year round. Some northern city 18-28 crowd just caught on this past year, but in the dirty souf, they've been omnipresent for awhile and i haven't noticed any fluctuation (except in online forums i guess). We're all influenced somewhat by our surroundings i suppose.

I'm 18 and I'm thinking about picking up sperrys but only for the right price. Sneakers are suitable for most occasions. I think they're fine for about any age group.

Is this colorway appropriate or should I just stick with navy?

Check ebay. I got my navy ones for $28 i think. My sandals i used for running quick errands broke over the summer and i've just been using my boat shoes for everything lately since i can just slide em' on. You can find most colors/sizes at least slightly cheaper on ebay compared to retail.

They have been a staple in New England and the preppier parts of New York forever also.
