Boat Shoe question

Ok---I fell into a lake with my Topsiders on. After about 5 hours, they don't seem much drier. Since boat shoes are meant to be worn during watersport, wouldn't they dry even if totally soaked through?

I'll add shoe trees too.

I stuff loosely balled-up newspaper inside. Usually fine by morning.
