eg1 - I implemented a similar system a while back. Unfortunately a colorblind housekeeper, loving wife and helpful five year olds did the system in until I had no choice but to abandon it, but you have inspired me! I shall redouble my efforts

This is very strange, because your knots never look like FIH to me.

I have RTW ties shortened, and tie them further down the blade than would usual...it often has the effect of widening the knot relatively at the top the way that I pull the knot through. That, plus the fact that they stick out rather than hang down straight way forshortens the view in straight on photographs, and even more so in the close-up shots where the camera is at waist level looking up.

Today's knit Marinella has a thin blade almost straight through and isn't sticking out as much...maybe that looks more normally FIH-ish to you.

And if I think about it carefully, I probably do tie a small knot more often recently.

I used to do navy. Then everyone here blabbed on and on and on about colorful socks. And wool socks. Being the rube that I am, I went out and bought all those OTC, colorful wool socks. I've since decided I hate wool socks, don't enjoy socks that go up so high, and fear that someone at work will see me with scarlet red or bright yellow socks.

So now I stick to navy and grey.

I used to only have blue and wine coloured socks. Over the calf, cotton or wool. Then I started trying other colours and patterns. Now I'm tired of it and might go back to my protocol, as I called it. The difference is that now my decision to stick to two colours is informed by some direct experience of a wider variety, so in a sense it's a better informed decision. Or at least that's my rationalisation for my u-turn.

I don't wear loud colors, but I do always wear patterns. I also wear greens and reds things other than blue and gray, just more muted.

Fun ties -- never.

The first day I wore sky blue socks with charcoal trousers and black shoes we had a meeting at a U-shaped table and everyone on the other side was exposed to my colorful socks for an hour and a half. At the time I was absolutely mortified. Fortunately for me the world revolves around someone else and no one cared. That said, I stuck with plain dark colors for a few months after that.

edit: this is actually a really interesting commentary on the evolution of the forum over the past three years http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=18662

Ulturale? The ties are called tie', which is an English-Italian pun I can't be bothered to explain.

This is why is undergo quite a bit of roughing up here by hooligans to save people from flushing money down on Fresco, 12oz Scrooge dinner jackets, cloths designed by the taste-impaired, band-aid colored shoes, double monks and other sartorial sewage.

Yes, but honestly your taste in ties scares me. I have no idea what you do for a living or whether you're into "the pink", but I'd be better off fisting myself with a sandpaper glove than wearing those ties. I still don't have double monks - but I really, really want a pair. Not in bandaid yellow!

dear iammatt:

are you going to buy all of your socks from the same source, in the same model? how will you pair ones with equal amounts of wear?
