So I’ve just bought a suit that I really want to ware to my friends wedding (picture attached).
The wedding is a black tie event was just wondering what your thoughts are on what kind of tie or bow tie I should ware.

The invite says black tie but most people will be in dark suits
I know this is not your intention, but a wedding guest should never stand out compared to the bride and groom. That suit will stand out in a black tie event, even if black tie optional.

I do not get it as far as the suits that men are trying to wear to weddings. There are countless write-ups about what NOT to wear. However, it has been an increasing amount of men trying to wear suits that are just not the right patten or color. Just early this week I saw a post asking what to wear to a wedding for a wine colored suit. The gentleman was inquiring whether to wear a pink shirt and purple tie. I am like really, a wine colored suit to a wedding?

If a person showed up to my wedding with the suit in this post or a wine colored suit I would definitely ask them were they the one getting married or me. I am pretty sure my wife would ask him the same question as well.

For the record : if you are a guest to a wedding you should dress conservatively in a Navy or charcoal suit and if it is a black tie event then wear a tuxedo or at least a black suit, white shirt, and black tie. Period! The only caveat is if it is a beach wedding or the bride and groom state otherwise.

Remember gentleman is is not about YOU and how good YOU think you should look but rather, the bride and groom.

Just one more the wedding isn't about you; you need to be conservative. It's a striking suit to be sure, but not appropriate for a wedding unless they've specifically suggested you dress more flamboyantly. ESPECIALLY if it's a black tie affair. Tuxedo/black suit is the gentlemanly and considerate thing to wear in this occasion.

You could invite George Clooney and Charlie Watts to your wedding and they would not outshine the bride, guaranteed.

Simply wearing a bowtie does not make ones dress "black tie"...
