My first posting! How appropriate is it to match a traditional 'military' style (for want of a better description) blazer with brass buttons etc. with a pair of denims? And what shoes would you wear? Asking on another site I was told that blazers shouold be worn only with stiff collared shirts and formal trousers. I've seen it work very effectively with jeans though ...

it works but how well is a question...

a traditional Hopsack weave blazer with Brass buttons when paired with denim is a look of confusion.

A nice gab blazer with horn buttons or even a flannel with leather wrapped buttons in teh fall would be better with denim.

As to shoes...when i lived in texas you saw this look with exotic boots on weekends etc. but i would stick with a pair of slip on or driving mocs just my 2 cents worth

Guess he wasn't too busy fashioning the Doomsday Device to establish a new fashion.

Thanks. Can't see me in a pair of cowboy boots somehow. Perhaps I'll stay with the more formal look, which is my preference and 'excite' the look a little with a colourful pocket square!

Really? Billy Crystal donned that same look back in 1988 in When Harry Met Sally.

Note that Hank didn't say when he pioneered the look. 1996 is merely the year he made that remark. Shortly before blowing up the 59th Street Bridge.

Meh. I still think he's not the first. No one is ever really original. I thought I was the first one to wear surplus camo belts in high school... soon after a trend started. I don't think it was me though. I refuse to believe Avril Lavigne was the first girl to wear huge ties with tank tops and t-shirts either.

"Have you ever seen a man say goodbye to a pair of shoes before?!"
"Yes, once."
Not on the forum...

To the OP, depends on your style. A skinny guy in a rock band could wear a vintage brass buttoned DB blazer with skinny jeans and s---kickers and pull it off... Then again, so can my dad with a pair of gap jeans and loafers. Personally, I couldn't wear that with jeans. I'd at least recommend jeans that are a few shades lighter than the jacket.

What's the difference between gab and hopsack?
