Good morning,

Still very new to a lot of things when it comes to style and really appreciate all the solid advice I see on here. With that being said, I recently purchased a Brooks Brothers blazer on eBay that was a little too long. I took it to my tailor and $80 later (some other alterations were made as well, sleeve length, etc.) the problem would seem to be fixed. HOWEVER, I noticed something that should of been obvious.....the pockets on the side are closer to the bottom on the blazer now. I am afraid I have totally messed it up. Anyway, was hoping you guys could perhaps tell me the length from bottom on a blazer/suit jacket to the end of the side pocket. For example, on the blazer in question, it now measures 6 1/2 inches between the bottom and the start of the pockets. In contrast I have a navy blazer from Nordstrom's house brand that measures 9 inches. I will try and post a picture today so guys can get a visual reference but any help now would be appreciated as well.

I don't think there is a hard and fast rule how high the pockets ought to sit: some tailors/ designers will cut them higher, others a bit lower. But, presuming you are about average hight, 6 1/2" does sound very low.

You only can shorten a jacket something like an inch at the most, otherwise pockets and buttoning point will be too low and the whole coat might look out of proportions.
