Blazer buttons: Smoked MOP or Horn?

I have a navy blue wool flannel blazer that I'm looking to enhance by changing the buttons. I'm trying to decide between horn or smoked MOP buttons. This is my first time doing this, so I'm not very well versed on buttons. Should the buttons be shank buttons or will thick buttons work for this blazer? (does a smoked MOP shank button even exist?) Where should I go to purchase these buttons? Any other suggestions? Thanks for any help.

I am partial to four hole smoke buttons.
smoke buttons come in shank, but not great for a blazer

Smoked MOP looks more "blazer-ish." Horn always makes it look too much like an orphan suit coat, at least in my opinion.

4 hole brass looks nice also not shank brass. shank brass looks too country club

Am in the process of switching from shanked and enameled brass (which look horrible) to some brown horn. Placed an order from MJ trim but have been dealing with backorder for 2-3 months (apparently an Italian customs issue?). The buttons seem nice for the price, though.

Try buttonsandtrim on eBay, he has a store and has those buttons in stock. I think they are $18 per set.

+1. MOP buttons are my favorites and I have several jackets, including blazers, with MOP buttons. Some are smoked (gray), some are white, so you have some choices.

Smoke MOP , all the way. I got them on my St. Andrews Blue cashmere blazer, couldnt be happier

Here's another for smoked MoP. Horn is too much like a suit jacket. I'd put brown horn buttons on a navy flannel suit.

I'll disagree I think that horn can be pulled off without problem, you just have to dress the jacket down.

I opted for smoked MOP but brown horn is a great option too. I like it when horn blazer buttons are brown and a bit rough on the edges. Highly polished buttons will make it look like a suit coat. Something like this is perfect:

I think it entirely depends on the weight and nature of the blazer. I consider MOP, even if smoked, to be rather summery, or suitable for all-season, but if it's a heavier weight I'd go for horn and rough them up with a little sandpaper.

EDIT: I missed the flannel part. Yes, definitely the roughed up horn.

So are buttonsandtrim and mjtrim the best places to purchase the smoked MoP and horn buttons? Also, what size should I get for a blazer? Keep in mind this is a fall/winter weight navy blue wool flannel blazer.
