blake, bologna, norvogese, and goodyear welting

just curious on all these names. blake, bologna, norvogese, goodyear welting...what are they and what the heck do they add to the shoes? differences? forgive my noobness with weltings...

Well, here's a start. In the link below, you'll see illustrations of the main methods of shoe construction--including those that you mention, although Blake is referred to as McKay and Bologna as Bolognese. Unfortunately, the writing accompanying the illustrations is in Japanese, but you will get the basics of the different construction methods from the pictures. Your question is really a multi-layered one, and I'll let others chime in with their contributions.

Those illustrations are mislabeled and the descriptions generally innacurate, but the diagrams themselves are useful.
