Gents,

At a RL outlet, I saw an interesting blackwatch sportcoat/dinner jacket, which looked like a typical blackwatch sportcoat, but it had the black satin lapels as on tuxedo jackets. I think this would be a fun novelty item to wear to Christmas parties and the like, but I am not sure what to wear with it. Would one have to go with typical tuxedo attire, due to the satin facings? What kinds of trousers, ties, and shirts are my options here? Many thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Wear with black tuxedo trousers. Just wear it as though it's a normal tuxedo. I do.

You can wear these with or without silk faced lapels. Although the buttons are usually still covered with silk. You could probably do a peak lapel one with plain buttons and double it up as a blazer. Same with a velvet jacket. It's more modern and versatile but it could be pushing it.

Truthfully I have a bit of black watch cashemre and some bottle green velvet which I havent had made up because I cant decide whether to face the former with black grosgrain or not and the latter with matching green satin, or just to leave the lapels as self materials and get the buttons covered, or to just get them as peak lapel sports jackets...oh, what's a dandy to do?

zjpj83 -

That is an excellent look, I really like it a lot. May I ask what shoes you are wearing in that picture?
