is Indochino and Blacklapel the same company?

I'm not sure if they're owned by the same people, but I wouldn't be surprised if their suits are produced in the same cheap, Asian factory.

I'd just do a remake, my first jacket also had too long sleeves. Lesson learned for first-timers: use sleeve measurements for a jacket that fits...their guide seems to make sleeves too long. Also, the added DB jackets to their collection a couple of days ago.

the only thing I don't like about the jackets, is that you can't request less padding. (the're not heavily padded though)

Indochino was founded in vancouver in 2007 and Black Lapel started last year in 2012 in Toronto by three guys so they are different companies. Glad to hear good reviews of them as i am skeptical of online mtm suitmakers.

Hi guys,

Been lurking for about 2 months. Didn't want to make a new thread but could anyone critique my suit?
Its from Black Lapel.

Its Slim Fit, Navy Colour.
Seems pretty good overall (the length of the pants seem slightly short).

I'm not used to slim fit but seems pretty good.

Thanks in advance!

My experience was not great. Fit was very poor, fabric thin, shoulders soft and formless. Took it to my tailor who, when his self-righteous hissy fit subsided, took a razor to several seams, revealed the structure of the jacket, fanned his arms around, shouted, and then finally agreed to do what he could. The cost to make is right will be a third of the cost of the suit. Added all together, getting close to MTM in London.

Would not recommend. Even Brooks Bros can knock something together MTM that is the same cost and superior in terms of build. That's assuming you're not a fan of floppy, thin, cruise wear.

BlackLapel is awful, I'd avoid them at any cost - speaking from experience and friends who've used their service, I can't believe we even wasted our time and money on this garbage (sorry if I'm being too harsh). Seriously, it was not great and I was not satisfied, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone else to go to them. They are not knowledgeable about suiting at all, just browse their site and you'll see even their fit photos are off. :embar:

I agree with the above user, hell - I was very satisfied with my BB MTM jacket. Fit and finish was fantastic.

I don't really understand the hate.
I've received them and nearly everything seems pretty good! I was actually surprised by the fabric and the general half-canvassed construction.
Pants was slightly too short in length but I'l get that fixed with the taylor.

And eitherway, why didn't you just send it back for a full refund if the cost was a "third of the cost of the suit"?

If you're going to post such a strong opinion, it would be nice if you included details to support your points.

Its online MTM, were you expecting savile row quality work? Btw comparing it to BB MTM is a bit unfair because you were actually there for the measurements. But in general just because its "custom" doesn't mean its going to be perfect add in the the self measure aspect and you can see where this is heading.

I just got my Black Lapel suit yesterday. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. The skirt of the jacket seems to flare out a bit. Anyone know how to fix it? Thanks!

I purchased a few Black Lapel custom shirts since OTR do not fit me (I'm tall, thin, and I have long arms). The shirts arrived and they seemed of good quality. The fit was a little off so I'm getting them remade. Not a big deal. They also said I can wear the originals until the remakes arrive if I want. I had a good customer service experience so I ordered a slim fit solid navy suit from them as well. When they arrive I will post some pics.
