I plan on wearing one to my senior prom. The rest of my ensemble is good. However, I need a cheap yet good looking black vest. I have a high school budget so any suggestions welcome! Would like to look classy while not breaking the bank at all...

are you wearing a suit or a tux to prom?

^ This. I'm guessing a suit is most likely, in which case you really should have got a matching vest as part of a 3-piece, but its prom so nobody will care if you wear a slightly mismatched waistcoat (I'm assuming the suit is also black).

If it is a tux, then you should be wearing a low-cut formal waistcoat, a high 5/6-button waistcoat should never be worn with a tuxedo, though this is one of many abominations that seem all to common at prom.

In either case, I don't have any specific suggestions. A price-range would help, as 'not breaking the bank' probably means something very different to a lot of people here than it does to someone of prom age.

I see, so you don't recommend an actual vest? I think I would prefer to wear an actual vest though...
Those are 'actual' vests. That is the appropriate style for wearing with a tuxedo. Wearing a high-cut style vest with a tuxedo looks terrible and is just plain wrong. Correct (providing you ignore the notch lapel and two buttons): Awful:

the vest comes from the place the tux comes from.

Interesting! Wow. I feel like that if i wore the proper vest, I may be completely different from all the other people... But is it me but I can't seem to find these correct vests anywhere?

If you're renting the tux, rent the vest too. if you want to buy, you can get a black vest at H&M for about $25-30. Although it wouldn't pass muster on the forum because it won't be the proper tuxedo waistcoat, no one here will see you and no one else at your prom is likely to know the difference.

I bought the tuxedo from JAB. I will check out H&M however. Aren't the materials for the vest and the lapels supposed to be the same though?
