Black tie with navy blazer?

Not feelin' a black tie with gold buttons.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the gold buttons - I have a blazer with the buttons and a blazer without. Just not with a black tie.

With a navy suit, however, a black tie can be elegant.

Here's an example of black tie with navy suit from the WYWRN thread:

It looks magnificent. On the other hand, a black tie will almost certainly look appalling with a brass-buttoned navy blazer. edit: also, apparently other parts of the world have tv's on seatbacks on trains.

the suit looks light charcoal-ish to me...

looks charcoal to me.

i dont see how any of these pictures wouldnt look better with a navy tie instead, or in the case of the charcoal suit...a dark burgundy.
