Hi,

I was wondering if UK users (or those familiar with UK retailing) know the best places for me to purchase everything needed in a black tie ensemble?

I'm fairly confident in where I'll be purchasing the dinner jacket and trousers from, but in terms of dress shirts / studs / braces / waistcoat / shoes, where do you recommend?

I've seen lovely onyx studs in Thomas Pink, but I'm willing to bet that will be frowned upon here, so all recommendations will be greatly appreciated

I got most of my gear from Ede. They do/did a nice 1BSBPL jacket, and a traditional low-cut black waistcoat and they also have a nice range of studs too. That reminds me; I need to check if my jacket needs any fine-tuning re: fit soon...

Shoes - not sure. I tend to use either a polished pair of plain black captoes or some funky green slippers. I know Charles Tyrwhitt do some patent oxfords and their sales can make items pretty competitively priced. I'm sure Ede also have offerings, but probably a bit more expensive.

Good luck!

I have a shirt from Crombie, quite pleased with it, and some studs although they are functional rather than spectacular, anyway they have pretty serious sales still on.

+1 on Ede and Ravenscroft, not bought any black tie stuff from there, but I was in their shop just of savile row recently and they seemed to have a pretty good selection of braces and other accessories.

Waistcoat: surely, you will get this from where you get the rest of the suit from? I wish i ordered a waistcoat when i got my DJ made up...

I'd also mention Hackett for accessories.
Go to the source for the braces (Thurston)
I have some nice plain silver studs from Ede & Ravenscroft.
Pakeman, Catto & Carter does an old school cream silk shirt, and other bits and bobs.
Budd or Brooks Bros. for the collarless, boiled front shirt.
As for shoes, regular black shoes are the norm (cf. Holdfast!), but for patents or pumps any reputable Northampton shoe company does 'em.

Now does anyone know where i can get a larger-than-the-norm sized black bow tie?
