Black Tie Recommendation for a beginner

Hello, 2 years ago on short notice for a black tie event I quickly ordered a "Christian Dior" tuxedo on ebay because the price was good. I believe it was a previously rented tuxedo, but it served me well for the event. I was then wondering, are these "former rented" tuxedos any good? I will be attending more black tie and formal events so I was thinking I should get a proper tuxedo, are there any recommendations in the RTW or MTM area? In the future I hope to buy bespoke tuxedos but I'll ask again when the time comes for that! Thank you very much.

You have a tuxedo, is there a problem with it? Does it smell bad? Does it fit poorly? Do you just not like the cut? Are you looking for a better material? If it was actually a rental tuxedo, I can imagine a couple of these issues being a problem, but if it has a Christian Dior tag, why would it be a rental?

If you have something in hand, you kind of know everything you need to know about it. There's no need to rush to "upgrade" something that's perfectly good as is. If there's a problem with it, focus on that, and focus on getting that right next time, instead of worrying whether or not it was a rental.

Most “Christian Dior” out there is lower-quality licensed/diffusion but people won’t notice if it fits well. A lot of rental tuxedoes are notch lapel, which isn’t ideal. If yours is peak or shawl then that’s a good start. Beyond that, get a self-tie bow tie if you don’t already have one and a good tuxedo shirt; I prefer a Marcella bib front with turndown collar rather than the pleated
wing collar style you typically see on rental shirts.

Knowing what I’ve done in rental tuxedos, might want to scan it with an ultraviolet light to see how “former rented” it is.

If you’re attending black tie events with regularity, why not buy another tux or even have several in rotation with different dinner jackets to choose from. A black, a gray, maybe a midnight blue. You’re one of the remaining few men in society who actually gets invited to black tie events. Do it up. Trust me, I’m not just a little bit jealous or anything.

Thank you everyone for your help, I really liked the fit of Zegna's tuxedos- I've heard mixed reviews on Zegna but it works for me- so I bought a 1 button peak lapel tuxedo rtw(minor alterations) from them. I'll probably keep the Christian Dior one for less important stuff like a distant family friends wedding and miscellaneous functions like that. Thank you again.

Four words, young man: Burgundy. Velvet. Dinner. Jacket.

Be that guy.
