Just wear it man.. even to the office.. you honestly think your superiors care if you come into the office wearing a black suit? A suit is a suit.. Black, Gray, Blue, Tan, Brown, whatever color. People put way too much hype on the black suit negativity..

You could try just buying midnight blue and calling it black.

I dunno I have do disagree with you here. If someone is gracious enough to extend an invitation to me, I would personally abide by their wishes if i choose to attend. Even if it's the difference between midnight blue and black. If you are going to do otherwise, consulting the bride/groom would probably be my number one choice.

Nothing wrong with a black suit at night. It's during the day that it looks overpowering unless used very carefully. One way to look at it is that it'd be a suit that's good for evening social.

You read my mind. I am all for the Midnight Blue. The problem I forsee with it is with the group photos. He'll stand out of the group and his friend may accuse him of ruining his whole wedding for looking better than the rest.

This thread reminds me of that Archer episode:

Outdoors in daylight it will show that the midnight blue is midnight blue, especially when you stand next to the other guys wearing black.

Isn't it custom for the groom to provide his groomsdudes their uniforms?

No, if normal clothes are involved - but why should they all be in uniform? They come as individuals not as part of some form of beauty parade.

Because the groomsdudes come as the groom's posse. Other guests can wear what they like.

Why not just rent? Since you know how it should fit get it tailored as much as they will do, wear it a few hours, and dump it back off at the store the next day then never think about it again.

If the event is at night, midnight blue will work. Nobody will be able to tell it isn't black.

+1. After sunlight is gone, no one will notice the difference.

I'm self-employed, so the issue has less to do with my superiors and more to do with my own neuroses.

Not that I'm aware of. I've been in many weddings and have never had the clothing provided for me, and I'm not buying the guys' suits for my upcoming wedding.
