I assume these will eventually blend in as I build patina, but they look kind of dumb right now. Is there a way to kind of mask them? Should I try cream instead of wax polish? And yes, they haven't been polished in a while.

It's generally easier to cover stuff up with cream than wax polish. Not easy to say from just the picture, but I wouldn't be so worried about those spots, as nobody will be looking at your shoes from up close enough to tell anyways.

normal polishing and buffing (preferably using a pink cashmere Attolini tie) should do the trick.

Polish normally but don't drag the rag quickly across the vamp too quickly, you may have burned them.

I encountered this problem just last night. Mine were caused by Tingley overshoes. I read somewhere that wrapping the shoes in plastic first is recommended, but I now see the advantage of Swims. Regardless, a quick polishing did not really help, so maybe I will try some cream and a more thorough polishing.

Also, **** Tingleys, they tend to leave that black residue all over.

God damnit. I guess I will be doing away with the Tingleys. The SWIMS brand doesn't leave residue? Can they be had for cheap?

Last I looked, they retailed for just under $100, which is why I went for Tingleys in the first place. Interesting to see that I'm not the only one who's had the problem with the black spots...

Wore my Tingleys tonite w/my EG Inverness. They did leave evidence but it was raining pretty hard and I was driving (manual). Soles & uppers were bone dry, tho.
