Black Sport Coat Under $700

I've been looking for a black, slim fit sport coat with a slick, thin feel to it.

I looked at Boss and I liked their fit, but their thin, slick feel jackets only come in suits.

Now I also read that you guys think Hugo Boss isn't as good quality as it costs. What should I get instead?

I'd suggest you look for something on eBay or the Buy & Sell forum.

In short: $700 can buy you a Hugo Boss sportcoat from a store. But it can buy you a lot more online.

Some relevant items I've purchased for under $700:
- pure cashmere RLPL sportcoat
- Gucci suit
- Dolce & Gabbana suit
- Dunhill suit (x2)
- Burberry suit

There's just no reason to spend that much money on Hugo Boss unless you're in a hurry and can't spend time searching online or waiting for the mail.

That might be up your alley. Better made than Hugo and Under $700 at discount.

Well I'm not just another parrot that goes along with the "Sf-approved opinion" and what other people deem correct.

So if people have that attitude towards this, they can either A. don't get involved in the thread. Or B. pretend like I'm going to a funeral or am a service employee, I really don't care.

I am of the opinion that a nice grey or brown or even navy suit is far more appropriate for everday business occasions than a black one... however, stylistically, if the suit fits well, then I don't see how color should be an issue-- that is merely a question of taste.

The only problem buying online (and it's by no means a small problem) is that you can't get your body into the suit. My suggestion is either a BR or J.Crew suit, they are fairly inexpensive when compared to Hugo Boss, however BR's fit is rather baggy. J.Crew's suiting line is rather sharp I must say, however not as sharp as Boss...

For sportcoats... I have actually seen some nice slim (maybe too slim) blazers on Topman, they are relatively cheap as well.

What is BR? And I've never been in J. Crew, why them?

J.Crew, and this is just my opinion, is probably one of the better quality large-chain retails out there. Their Ludlow section of pants and blazers blows my mind at those prices.

I am not a big fan of their pants in general and some of their sweaters and casual shirts are awful, but I have to admit their suiting is fine, indeed.

But for you, I'd suggest Topman, since you're just looking for a black blazer/sportcoat/whatever you want to call it. The only thing is Topman caters a lot to slimmer guys (this is simply just what I've noticed throughout the years) so if you're not very slim then I'd go with J.Crew.

edit- I looked it up, and you recommended Topman, which top out at 200 pounds ($300) for a suit, when I put a budget of $700 for just the blazer. Is there nothing better under $700?

Because you are 20 years old you think a black sports jacket is stylish. It can be for going out at night. Black should not be worn during the daytime, however. Keept it to after dark and you'll be fine.

With regard to your size, I'd reserve judgement. Most people start buying suit jackets one size too large. You may very well be a 38 or a 39. Try all sizes before commiting.

So what you're saying is you want to pay just about 700 for a blazer, but not over 700?

I don't quite follow your logic but... I'll just say that really, a blazer is a blazer if it is of nice quality... there is no difference in my opinion between a 300 dollar blazer and a 2000 dollar blazer of the same design.

That is merely a matter of prestige.
